Time to lose weight! Although not as 'fat' as was originally intended, Ensemble Proton Bern celebrates its postponed 10th birthday à la "better late than never". Who says that new music can't be humorous or spread jollity? The explicitly comical new work by Annette Schmucki — a master of word and language-based composition — is a kind of celebratory birthday 'serenade' for 9 instrumentalists without instruments. The music theatre piece 'Change', written by one of the founding fathers and long-time Artistic Advisor of Ensemble Proton, Christian Henking, shook up the steadfast instrumental roles within the Ensemble in its 2017 premiere. If only he realised back then the power of this prophetic statement… In any case, 'Change' brilliantly reflects the changes within the Ensemble with charm and irony. Tobias Krebs enjoys a world premiere with a work written especially for this milestone: REFRACTIONS, in which a nexus of acoustic and electronic instrumental sound is masterfully created.
