Based on Gustav Mahlers
«Das Lied von der Erde»
A scenic concert conceptualized by Leo Hofmann, Sasha Amaya and the Ensemble Proton Bern
With arrangements by Leo Hofmann, Yiran Zhao and Richard Elliot Haynes. Performance by Sasha Amaya.
Tue. 15.10.: Discussion following the concert
Ensemble Proton Bern and composer-performer Leo Hofmann develop a scenic concert that brings Gustav Mahler's "Das Lied von der Erde/The Song of the Earth" to life in a completely new version. Mahler's unofficial 9th Symphony is a work full of power, imagination and craftsmanship, but whose song is actually being played/sung? Which Earth is implied here? The ensemble counter the exoticisms of Mahler with a colourful bouquet of co-authorship: Through intensive collaboration with Leo Hofmann, composer Yiran Zhao, the dancer Sasha Amaya and our clarinettist Richard Haynes re-compose Mahler’s "Song of the Earth" for Ensemble Proton and scenic elements.
"Leo Hofmann creates and performs musical theatre, performance art and radio plays. Using sound, voice, movement and instruments, he explores music as a digitally and physically permeated practice."
