The new evening-long composition titled Les Abîmes Hallucinés (The Voids of Madness) assumes as its primary task, the investigation of the instrumental make-up of Ensemble Proton Bern.
The conventionally notated score will be complemented by analogue electronics in the form of two Revox B77 tape players made by the Swiss company, Studer. These instruments make the direct processing and diffusion of acoustic signals possible through a multi-speaker array. The resulting analogue-electroacoustic textures create abstract and immersive sonic material without the use of a computer. The Revox B77 will be played by guest soloist Jérôme Noetinger, a renowned and highly experienced specialist in this area.
The work itself will last almost an hour and will feature a detailed structure with mysteriously complex orchestral colours. The Ensemble score will be paired with a second graphic score that will aid the electronic realisation. These complementary composition techniques inspire interaction: precise, controlled and rigorous yet with an open and intuitive outcome. The effect of exchange between these approaches is the basis and concept of the collaboration.
