A Sonic Ritual

Der besondere Probenbesuch
June 17, Dampfzentrale Bern (time: tba)

The first collaboration between the Lucerne-based electronics artist Martina Lussi and Ensemble Proton bringing together two different worlds of sound in a world premiere by Martina Lussi and an existing work by Pauline Oliveros. Lussis' composition explores various methods and techniques to merge acoustic instruments with an electronic soundscape, exploring the extremes of this "psycho-acoustic" sonic coagulation. Inspired by Oliveros’ own notion of deep listening, this joint composition will bring together two ways of making sound paradoxically united in the aim of bridging the gap between contemporary instrumental composition and a wide range of field recordings and electronic synthesis. The seminal work "Earth Ears: A Sonic Ritual" by Pauline Oliveros (1983) explores the subtleties of the space-time continuum.

"Martina Lussi's works are surprising because they do not start from a classical musical point of view. They deliberately place themselves somewhere in between the visual arts, sound installation and experimental-electronic music."
